Irene (Luptak) Jubinsky

Irene passed peacefully on June 22, 2012, at the age of 85. She is the cherished mother of Martin Jubinsky (Grand Blanc, MI), David Jubinsky (Brighton, MI) and Grace (Tony) Severyn (Cincinnati, OH) and grandmother of Noah, Gabe, and Olivia Severyn. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Paul and all of her immediate family. She loved her nieces and nephews as well as her many friends.

Irene was born in East Chicago, Indiana, in 1927, to immigrant parents from Czechoslovakia. Her father walked to his job in the steel mill, and as a young girl, Irene helped her mother with many chores, from buying live chickens at the market to stretching curtains. The family was of modest means, but enjoyed the love and support of family and friends. Irene excelled at shorthand and became a secretary for a high school. After she married, she quit her job (as was expected at the time) to stay home to raise her children. She was an energetic and inventive mom, and neighborhood kids frequently congregated at her house to play outside. She would fill her station wagon full of children to visit Chicago or the Indiana Dunes beaches often. Irene especially enjoyed family and friends, rooting for the White Sox, working in her gardens, and being an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Griffith, IN.

When her children were grown, Irene took a job setting up advertisements at the hometown newspaper, the Griffith Shopper, and truly enjoyed it. After caring for her husband at home until he passed away, Irene moved to Cincinnati to be near her daughter and grandkids.

Although she experienced declining health for several years, she kept her loving, supportive, cooperative, and funny spirit. In her last years, she found comfort and joy in the care she received from the very capable and loving people of St. Margaret Hall nursing home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Margaret Hall, 1960 Madison Road, Cincinnati, OH 45206.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, at 10:00, followed by mass at 11:00 at St. Margaret Hall. Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 27th, at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
